BACKSTORY

As a result of his time as band leader and primary writer in his bands Above the Thunderclouds and Hinterland, Gerry naturally found his way to co-write with a lot of the artists he plays with and produces. Notably he co-wrote most of the 2014 Suzanne Vega Album Tales from the “Realm of the Queen of Pentacles”, including the popular song ‘I Never Wear White’ and two songs “Boss of Me” and “I’ll Take You There” on Bowie’s penultimate album, “The Next Day”.

Gerry composed entire scores for the independent movies “32A” and “Twig” [Janey Pictures].

He is featured on guitar alongside Roger Waters for the closing title song “Hello” in “The Last Mimsy” [New Line Cinema]. He is guest guitarist on Peter Nashel’s soundtrack to “The Deep End” and “Bee Season” [Fox Searchlight Pictures] and produced the atmospheric guitars on Zoolander 2 [Paramount Pictures] and featured on Trevor Howard’s soundtrack for CrissCross [Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer]

In the theatre world he also provided additional music with Duncan Sheik for a performance of “Twelfth Night” at Shakespeare in the Park, New York as well as workshopping many of Duncans musical theatre including “Spring Awakening” and “Whisper House”. He was MD on the first Rattlestick production of the Suzanne Vega play about the life and worlds of Carson McCullers “Lover Beloved”. He worked with Dierdre Keenan on the play “Ettie” in 2018 and recently scored the play “The Intruder” by Jason O’Toole, performed in Dublin 2021,
